What We Gave
Today was Valentine's Day at Elliot's school, so I thought I'd show you what we ended up giving.
Elliot doesn't draw figuratively or write letters yet, so I needed a project that he could help with, as well as one that he had interest in. We made a potato stamp of a heart-- like last year-- and stamped it on the pages of the dictionary that keeps on giving. This was the end of Elliot's involvement, so after he went to bed, I cut them into little mitten shapes, scalloped the bottom, and addressed them. I also punched around the edges with a hole punch because I just couldn't stop myself. It will be fun next year when Elliot's attention span is a little longer to have him even more involved.
I had to brave the cold and snowy drive to school today because my husband had an early appointment. It was treacherous driving (saw many spin-outs), and I was never so happy to arrive. The children were all excitedly chattering about their Valentines. I spied some of their creations (they are required to bring handmade), and I can't wait to see what we receive. Hmmm, who's more excited here?? We have a lot of "mail delivery" in our house, so I'm sure they will all be dragged around for many months.
After drop-off Lucie and I headed over to the new grocery in Ann Arbor where there is a See's Candy, to pick up a few goodies for my Valentines as well as items for Valentine's dinner-- with the kids, of course. Prepared Pork Loin stuffed with dried fruit, fingerling potatoes, maybe a plum cake. Perhaps followed by hot chocolate with just my sweetie? What's on your menu?

what a great looking valentine. You know, you've inspired me to think about a nice dinner for Valentine's day, I've been so busy with the kids and their valentines this week, I forgot my best one! : )

How funny that you talked about playing "mail delivery" at your house. I was just at Target this morning and saw a mail activity set by Bloom (http://store.cranium.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=272_274&products_id=1143 ) I had never even heard of Bloom toys before, but it looked really fun! My youngest is 5.5 though... and may be too old for it? But I baby-sit for a 2mos, 2.5 year and nearly 5 year old- so maybe I'll get it for them.
No fun V-day dinner plans here. We might do something silly and make pink mashed potatoes... my husband is in charge of dinner- so we'll see. I am in charge of getting the 10 year old to her 2 hour ballet/jazz lesson.
I also love that your son's class is required to make their valentines. That's great.

Mmmm...that pork loin sounds so good. I think we'll be doing good ole' spaghetti and meatballs and my husband's favorite desert "dump cake". Cake mix with canned cherries, pineapple sprinkled with walnuts. It's not healthy so it's a once in a while treat.

Oh, I miss the times of inter-household mail delivery. My brothers used to stay up late the night before Valentine's Day and fill my "mailbox" to the brim.
My sweetie and I will be having our favorite "snack" dinner, which involves baked brie, french bread, caramelized onions, and a fancyish bottle of wine. Dessert will be heart-shaped sugar cookies of course, with pink sprinkles.

We're still at the stage where I cut out construction paper hearts for E to scribble all over and send to grandmothers. :-)
For dinner I'm going to try to recreate one of our favorite meals from a Lebanese restaurant we went to in our former city when we were first married. <3

I love these! We are woefully behind on Valentines this year ... it snuck up on me this time. So, we'll have to work on them in the morning (thankfully we don't have to give many) as we're just about to leave the house for my afternoon of cello lessons. Anyway, yours are adorable!
PS: We did apple stamps last year, and they turned out well.

How sweet a valentine - I like how you used the natural waxed bag as an envelope. Neat idea. As far as a romantic dinner? My h won't return until after Valentine's. Maybe we'll celebrate then.

I love your valentine! That is so pretty and a great way to involve your child!
I love See's. We are addicted to their scotchmallows.
Sadly, my un-gourmet plan for Valentine's is a heart shaped pizza from Papa Murphy's and pink soda! :)

What a sweet Valentine!
It's going to be just me & the kiddos tonight, so I plan on making heart shapped (fingers crossed) pizzas for supper. I think they'll get a kick out of that.

I love the Valentine. Those dictionary pages get me every time. (Even though I'm inordinately distracted by the phrase "where there is a See's candy".)
