Seven Random Things

161877542_abadba4323

I was tagged a few weeks back by Patricia of Good + Happy Day to tell Seven Random Things about myself, so here goes.

1)  I like to talk a lot, and always got in trouble for it in school.  When I was little my Mom, who really didn't buy me printed t-shirts, bought me a shirt that said "chatterbox" on it.  My report cards ALL say something like-- "Courtney's a nice little girl who likes to talk a lot."

2)  Oddly, I hate the telephone.

3) I can't stand mismatched dishes.  I really require at least 4 of each item.  To me, that constitutes a set.  For a while I had two stray mugs which were each a gift.  I had to get rid of them because it made me unhappy when I opened the cabinet.  When you all show your thrifted mugs, I squirm in my seat.  I could buy some if I found a set, though.

4)  When I was small I wore a pink tutu constantly.  I did  not take ballet.  The top was (faded) pink satin with sequins which were sort of falling off.  The bottom was pink tulle, not overly perky.  I woke up my parents each day while wearing it.

5)  I did not take a single art class after 9th grade or at all in college.  I double majored in history and anthropology, planning be a curator of education at a museum.  A few years later I returned to college to study art.

6)  I love to window shop, always have.  When I was little my Mom would take me to the town where my grand-parents lived and give me some spending money.  I would walk to every shop in town debating about what to spend my $5 on, walking back and forth.

7)  My favorite movie is Out of Africa.

and a few extras--

8)  I'm named after Courtney Kennedy, (not because of anything she did, my Mom just liked the name) and am a Kennedy-o-phile.  We lived in Boston when JFK, Jr. died, and I swear, you would have thought it was a family member or something.

9)  I get star struck easily, and have seen a lot of stars in person.  When I lived in Chicago I saw Joan Cusack, John Cusack (not together), Robert Redford, Donny Osmond (oooooh...), and in New York- Clare Danes, Brooke Shields, Peter Fonda (he pet my corgis in an elevator at the Tribeca Grand), Nicole Kidman.  I would NEVER approach a star, but I love seeing them.

Wow...number 9 is impressive to me. Other than plenty of local St. Louis Celebs I have only ever encounter Lenny Kravis(who is very very short and held a door open for me) and last year Goldie Hawn (who dresses rather interesting and waved & said hi to my daughter). How fun...thanks for sharing!

Love your randomness. 1 and 2 apply to me as well!

FUN! i always got the "talks a lot" comment on report cards, too. and lucky you for seeing john cusack. i love him! so cute :)

I had to laugh about your report card. Back in the day when they used to have parent/teacher interviews at your home I was "hiding" by the door listening to my teacher talk to my parents about my chatterbox tendencies. Of course they knew I was there and my teacher told my parents I had verbal diarrhea and he was going to hook me up to his septic tank!

I am with you on No. 2 and 7. I love getting together with friends but dislike chit chatting on the phone. Out of Africa is also my favorite movie. I have visited the Karen Blixen museum in Nairobi, Kenya.

I also love seeing the stars! Once Nicole Kidman sat behind me during a play I saw in New York. Knowing that was almost more thrilling than the play itself! hee hee.

My dad used to tell everyone I was vaccinated with a phonograph needle. I also hate talking on the phone, avoiding it if at all possible.

i agree about the mismatched dishes...can't stand it.
and i was star struck this past weekend in nyc...debra messing was in front of us in the security line in la guardia. david byrne (talking heads) had lunch at the same restaurant.
i majored in history too...would love to go back to school for graphic design.

That's so funny about the talking. Same thing with me. Unfortunately, it looks like my daughter is heading down the same road. We drive my husband nuts!

And, I also absolutely hate the telephone. May family is always getting on me for not calling. Even as a teenager I hated it.

just love your things. and couldn't agree with you more about number nine. am starstruck too but believe they should be left alone.

am jealous you saw claire danes. oooh, she is my fave.

My teachers would repeatedly say I needed to learn to raise my hand when I wanted to talk in class.

Strange so many of us bloggy ladies had the same feedback!!!!

Hey, 1 and 2. That's me! :0) Might explain why I became a teacher, so I could talk a lot and people had to listen. :0) Now I have my kids telling me no all the time. :0)

ok, this was very fun, to learn your randomness. Its funny that you talk a lot, especially since your blog seems quite and thoughtful (a compliment). I am the same, talk a lot, Peter's always having to keep me in check, but I rarely answer the phone.

I too like my dishes to be matching, which is strange, becuase in every other way I AM NOT matchy-matchy. Those oddball mugs are outta here!

Totally identify with the phone. It also applies to mobiles in my case too. Luckily the children like using them, so they will call for me if we're out. Also 5- sewing class frustrated me as the teacher wanted us to show her every seam before we went on to the next one. I rebelled, made a whole tracksuit and insisted on taking it home so I could ice skate wearing it at the w/e. Have sewing teachers changed at all?

Ohhh, I loved reading this! It is great to learn more about you. I am dying at some of our similarities - like the talking a lot (and getting in trouble for it) and the not liking the phone. I thought that I was the only one . . . with the phone thing. I just don't think that it is fair that whoever wants to can interrupt my daily life whenever they want. I don't answer my phone alot because I figure if it is important I will call them back (which I am working on improving). My family gives me a hard time but I am going to tell them that there are others out there!! :)

What a fun post. I've never been a chatterbox but I am so with you on no. 2! I hate the phone and am relieved to see that I'm not the only one. I dread hearing it ring unless I'm expecting a specific call. I hate making phone calls even more, I'm terrible at returning calls! I carry a cell phone for convenience but can't understand the people who are on theirs perpetually.

I'm also with you on no.3. I just never have the nerve to actually get rid of the strays. I thought I was weird! Nice to know I'm not alone with this quirk!

I agree with the mismatched dishes. One year for Christmas my mother-in-law gave me three plates, bowls and mugs, because she said there were three people in our family! (Shaking my head)

Great celebrity list! My claims to fame are Debbie Fields (as in cookies) and Dog the Bounty Hunter. Awesome, I know!

fun randomness!

Well I hate to be another one, but I too can talk a bit, but never on the phone - I sometimes let the phone go unanswered because I can't bear to pick it up! But you would be totally uncomfortable in our house because none none of the china matches! It is all red and white and has to be english china, so either wedgewood, masons or johnson bros, but none of the patterns are the same! and each cup and saucer set is unique!
By the way Eric Bana trains at my gym, which can sometimes make concentrating a little difficult :)

Loved learning more about you! I am so with you about mismatched dishes. I am constantly after my husband about his souvenir mugs! And yes, I also like to have at least 4 of everything. I love Out of Africa too! Have a great week! Patricia

Also a talker who dislikes the phone... but that's what blogging is for. ;)
