Jack and the Beanstalk Mural
I've been wanting to show this mural to you all for a while now, but I never have had my camera with me. I love the way the modular design can apply to other mediums, like quilting. There is one more kid way up top, can you see his legs?
It is three stories tall in Kerrytown, Ann Arbor, Michigan. It was designed in the 1960's by Louis G. Redstone for a mall, and was saved from a wrecking ball and moved to this location. (Here is a small picture of the whole mural) This is building houses the farmer's market, a grocer, meat market, fish market, as well as many of our favorite shops. It is usually a weekend destination for us.
PS- My Nikon D50 is taking really blurry photos even though I reset all of the default settings on the camera. Any ideas why?

Love the mural! I wonder if you might have tripped the manual focus switch on your camera instead of auto focus? If you're looking at the camera from the front (the lens side) the switch is near the base of the lens on the right side. It has an AF (auto focus) and an M (manual focus). Good luck!

Folk tales are some of my favorite things and this mural is such great art! It reminds me of the fabulous illustrations in elementary school reading books. So glad you took the time to get pictures.

What a fantastic piece of public art. I love looking at mosaics because I can always imagine them as quilts. I headed over to Flickr to view the properties of your photos but it looks like these weren't uploaded. It's hard to say if they're blurry because of low shutter speed or auto-focus was off (as someone else suggested). The properties should give some clues. Good luck.

Courtney, again I love your blogspot. I hae D70 and I usually adjusted the focus to the nearest one, you can go to the menu, click on the focus... choose the one nearest choice. In this case, you can get it focused better. Read www.kenrockwell.com he will tell you all about how to shoot and adjust all the settings for your camera. Very simple, yet works.
